INSPECTION

Transfer switches are a critical part of your facility electrical system, and just like all other electrical/mechanical systems, they require routine inspection and maintenance. Wheeler Power Systems employs more than 12 field technicians to serve our customers 24/7 and quick response and quality service is our number one goal. With employee safety being the most important aspect of our business and yours, Wheeler Machinery has taken the initiative to make sure our technicians are properly trained to work on many makes and models of automatic transfer switches (ATS) to include CAT, Zenith, ASCO, Onan and others. Technicians have completed Arc Flash training and are required to wear the appropriate PPE for each inspection and repair. This ensures that when Wheeler Machinery arrives on site we are providing electrical safety practices that are standard in our industry.

24 HOUR EMERGENCY SERVICE

Wheeler Power Systems will perform the following inspection points below and take corrective action if any, as needed. Where applicable and when permitted by the customer, we will inspect the following items:

DE-ENERGIZED

  1. Check all terminal connections for tightness.
  2. Re-torque connections, TS mounting, contact mounting and terminal

DISABLED

  1. Inspect all insulation for degradation.
  2. Inspect barriers for arc chutes.
  3. Inspect Transfer Switch coil, rectifier and resistors
  4. Inspect the coil and/or circuit cards and protective devices.
  5. All other accessory relays
  6. Inspect all timers
  7. Inspect and infrared arcing contacts where possible.
  8. Inspect and infrared main contacts where possible.
  9. Inspect linkage and lubricate as necessary.
  10. Clean the exposed Transfer Switch coil core and lubricate.
  11. Clean and vacuum Transfer Switch enclosure and controls.
  12. Inspect transfer switch & enclosure for corrosion, moisture and/or chemicals.
  13. Inspect and lubricate cabinet hardware for proper operation.
  14. Re-lubricate the transfer switch operator and pivot points.
  15. Replace defective switch indicator bulbs.

ENERGIZED

  1. Record utility voltage
  2. Record utility amperage
  3.  Record peak amperage
  4. Check for proper operation of the transfer switch,
    timers, relays, remote start contacts, exercisers,
    phase monitors and record settings.
  5. Check for excessive heat build-up with infrared
    thermometer.
  6. Record emergency voltage.
  7.  emergency frequency.
  8. Inspect all optional accessories. 

BYPASS / ISOLATION SWITCHES

  1. Inspect arcing contacts.
  2. Record utility amperage
  3. Record peak amperage
  4. Check for proper operation of the transfer switch,
    timers, relays, remote start contacts, exercisers,
    phase monitors and record settings
  5. Check for excessive heat build-up with infrared
    thermometer.
  6. Inspect all safety interlocks.

CLOSE TRANSITION TRANSFER SWITCHES

  1. Check closed transition Bypass operation.
  2. Check alarm time delay settings

MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS

  1. Replace ATS Batteries as needed.
  2. Customer authorized Load Transfer
  3.  Place all switches in proper operation mode.
  4.  Provide customer with written documentation
    of service procedures, any findings, suggested
    repairs and recommend corrective actions
    as needed.
